Jordan Brand is showing love to an often overlooked segment of the sneaker buying market. Its Holiday 2011 collection for girls features an impressive array of retro and new models. In the former category, JB presents three styles of the Jordan 1, one in a black-metallic pink colorway, the other two in more traditional grey and black but laced with what look like ribbons. All three feature interesting patterns throughout the upper. A XIV and 8.0 are both built with black suede and fuchsia accents, while the Jordan Flight 45 TRK makes a strong showing for contemporary styles in grey and black colorways. As part of its guest artist series, Stussy presents a T-shirt collection designed by Will Sweeney. The London-based artist and illustrator is known for his comic series Tales from Greenfuzz, as well as Alakazam, his T-shirt and print label. His extensive resume also features collaborations with fashion labels, TV shows and publications, among them Silas, Undercover, Amos Toys, Wonder Showzen, Yo Gabba Gabba, and The Wire magazine. The month October marks the return of 2 popular VANS OTW Bedford editions, the Black with Pewter (done with Bio Wash) and Brown on Gum Rubber Sole, both carry-over from VANS OTW Fall 2011 Collection. The heritage inspired line will also see 2 new color schemes. One in Grey and Wine nubuck, the other with unique Black/Blue oiled suede. Like all other Befords, all 4 feature the distinctive slim sihouette, a streamlined cap-toe design, and premium materials, making them the perfect footwear for a night out or a ride session at a nearby half pipe. Nike SB‘s footwear lineup for October is fairly muted, featuring dark colors dominated by black and grey and shades. The models are made up of a Koston 1, P-Rod 5 Mid, Vulc Rod in elephant print, Blazer in both mid and low variations, and a trio of Janoskis — one mid and two lows, the standout colorway a Takashi-inspired black and gold. In the desire to have his customers experience a wide range of luxuries, visvim‘s founder Hiroki Nakamura often seeks exotic materials as the foundation for his footwear design. One example is the new FBT Kudu JP, completely hand made with Kudu hide, a free roaming antelope found only in parts of Africa. Lined with cow hide and a natural cork footbed, all treated with natural dyes, or in some cases no dyes at all. The end product, in visvim’s signature moccasin silhouette, is something extremely breathable and light on your feet. To enhance the design further, Nakamura added a durable outsole, custom-made by Vibram, with a TPU heel stabilizer for rigidity. Comes in Dark Brown or Bordeaux, though unfortunately the editions will only be available in Asia at this time.

Nike has unveiled official images of its collaborative sneakers with Japan’s Mighty Crown. Celebrating the 20th anniversary of the highly touted reggae sound system, Nike is introducing a special edition Dunk High and Sky Force 88 Low, the former done up in tonal black and featuring virtually every material and texture in the Nike pantheon, the latter dressed in metallic silver and two kinds of croc print. Both shoes have a 1980s basketball pedigree, and both are unlike any sneaker we’ve seen in a long while. Expect them to arrive at select Nike Sportswear retailers in October.

| Kobe Bryant To Play For Virtus Bologna In Italy | Rumor Posted: 30 Sep 2011 06:00 PM PDT
In a meeting with reporters today, Claudio Sabatini, the president of Virtus Bologna expressed his continue optimism that Kobe Bryant will play for his team if the NBA lockout occurs. The deal, claimed to be “95% done” by Sabatini, will pay Bryant over $3 million for 35 to 40 days with Virtus Bologna, an average of 10 games. And if NBA season resumes, Bryant will be able to return to play for the Los Angeles Lakers. However, many doubt Bryant, who grew up in Italy and speaks Italian fluently, will take the deal since other Italian teams are pursuing deals of their own as well. Besides, injuries sustained during his stint abroad will void his contract extension with the Lakers, valued at $90 million dollars for 3-years. This comes on the day when Dwayne Wade and other players nearly walked out of talks between NBA team owners and athletes. At the center of this current dispute is, similar to other disputes in the past, refers to players’ salary cap and revenue sharing. With NBA season to start on November 1st, NBA Commissioner David Stern announced he will cancel the entire season if both sides can not come to an agreement this weekend. A moment of do-or-die for the 2011 NBA Season.

October’s Nike SB bag assortment is functional and full of good looks. They comprise two backpacks, both featuring a large main compartment and removable skateboard straps. The Backpack II is enhanced with a cushioned back panel and stabilizing sternum strap. A third model, the Shuttle Bag, is built with skateboard holder straps with custom nose and tail sleeves, hidden compartments for extra decks and large shoulder harness and briefcase handle. All three are crafted in a handsome green shade with brown trim. Expect them to arrive soon at select Nike SB retailers.

In the pursue of its motto as the “ultimate driving machine”, BMW machined together its 306-horsepower TwinPower Turbo engine with a 55-horsepower electric drivetrain and an eight-speed automatic gearbox. The result is the new BMW ActiveHybrid 5, an expression of efficiency and performance. Complex by design, both power plants on this BMW hybrid work harmoniously thanks to its intelligent power management system. The electric drive’s lithium-ion battery, located in the trunk, charged as the vehicle brakes or coasts. The drivetrain comes on-line when an additional boost is in need. Thus, an total output of 340-horsepower. Enough to propel the car from a standing start to 62 mph in just 5.9 seconds. It can also function independently from its gasoline-powered counterpart up to 37 mph. Thus, rakes in a fuel efficiency rate of about 44-40 mpg, similar to many compact sedans out on the market now. But this being a luxury sedan, expect amenities such a 4-zone climate system, iPhone/iPod connectivity, rear-view camera, BMW Adaptive Headlights, BMW Parking Assistant, BMW Night Vision, and other widgets.
