NikeTown New York – Air Jordan 11 Concord Launch | Event Recap Posted: 23 Dec 2011 02:00 PM PST By all accounts, it was a superlative evening for a midnight release in New York City yesterday. An uncannily mild winter night brought out last minute gift buyers, holiday bargain hunters, and thousands upon thousands sneaker heads. Almost every where you looked, there was a line-up for the prized Air Jordan XI Retro Concord. By mid-evening, an unofficial grid-lock alert on 34th Street went out via Twitter. Portions of the busy intersection in front of Macy’s department store were shut down because of not one but two line-ups. One for House of Hoops and the other for Foot Lock diagonally across the intersection. Things fare much better on 57th Street, where NikeTown NYC cordoned off one part of its storefront sidewalk for wristband holders, the other for non-holders. The affair was like clockwork till the rain came around 10:30 pm. Folks sought shelters any where and every where, from the employee entrance of the Tiffany flagship store around the corner to Tourneau‘s mega store on the opposite end. Most, though, toughed it out through the incessant downpour with coats, umbrellas, plastic bags, even cardboard they found on the street. To ease the situation, staffs at NikeTown NYC let more people into the store, to get them in from the rain. Nike rain gears, like its giant Nike Golf umbrella, were readily available for purchase too. But in the end, all were ecstatic simply to have the Air Jordan XI Retro Concord in their hands. With a few quick sips of the hot chocolate provided by NikeTown, its right back out onto the cold, rain, and a Nike shopping bag. Photography: Poe/Freshness

A Bathing Ape – Men’s Spring/Summer 2012 Collection Lookbook Posted: 23 Dec 2011 11:00 AM PST While the economic downturn has certainly been tough on the streetwear market, it has served to weed out the excess a bit. In this day and age only the strong survive, and Japanese giant A Bathing Ape is certainly one of the strongest, with their pioneering brand of high end apparel and gear still chugging after all these years. Coming down the pipeline for 2012 from Bape is a range that is split between their signature camo print, one of the tasteful remnants from the days of all-over print madness, and more straightforward minimalist pieces. Judging from this early look, the Spring/Summer collection leans heavily towards the cut and sew realm, with a surprisingly light showing of their usual graphic tees. Follow us after the jump for the full breakdown of the lookbook, and stick with Freshness for more info on these upcoming goodies from A Bathing Ape.

Nike Basketball Christmas Pack Posted: 23 Dec 2011 10:30 AM PST No amount of coal filled stockings could turn Christmas sour for basketball fans this year, with the long overdue return of the NBA landing on December 25th. As if the day wasn’t already special enough, Nike is dropping these four limited colorways of the Nike LeBron 9, Nike Kobe VII System Supreme, Nike Zoom KD IV, and the Nike Air Max Sweep, a gang of sneakers that will be on-feet come tip off. The Nike LeBron 9 and Amar’e Stoudemire’s new signature model the Nike Air Max Sweep thru both take the most direct route to the holiday tie in, with a green/red/white combo that oozes yuletide flavor. After that, Kevin Durant’s Zoom KD IV in the metallic bronze colorway has a somewhat curious reference, apparently the copper color comes as a nod to cookie cutters, an inspiration that is a bit more apparent after you get a peek at the insole graphics. Rounding out the pack is a the feral inclined Nike Kobe VII System Supreme, which doesn’t have too much inherent holiday cheer, but the model stays winning based on the high-tech swapping system. Follow us after the jump for an up close look at all four and be on the lookout for these signature sneakers from the forefront of Nike’s NBA representatives both on screen and in stores come Christmas day.

Posted: 23 Dec 2011 09:00 AM PST Japanese sneaker boutique Styles is already gearing up for Spring/Summer 2012 deliveries from adidas Originals by taking pre-orders from their footwear collection. The duck boot styled Tsumo PU borrows the aesthetic while maintaining the slim silhouette of classic adidas sneaker last. Two tone uppers are created by combining premium pigskin leather on top and black suede underneath, forming the distinct duck boot style. From behind, it is apparent that the laces on the front is a mock set up, the silver zippers offering easy access to the shoes. Multi-colored canvas boot lines the inside of the footwear, accented by yellow leather on the collar. These sneakers are planned to release around early March next year and pre-orders have started on Styles online store on ZOZOTOWN.

Michael Pitt – Prada Menswear Spring/Summer 2012 Campaign Posted: 23 Dec 2011 08:00 AM PST Michael Pitt, the actor best known for his role as Jimmy Darmody in HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, is the new face of Prada for the design house’s Spring/Summer 2012 menswear campaign. Shot by noted fashion photographer David Sims, the images are inspired by the Golden Age of Hollywood and evoke a quaint ’50s-era sense of glamour. Pitt’s star turn as prohibition-era gangster in sharply tailored suits has clearly prepared him well for his latest gig, as he looks right at home in retro print shirting and floral-print pants.
