Having profiled the new Ludlow Decon from the VANS OTW Spring 2012 collection, we now take a look at the original Ludlow in two new colorways for spring. The shoe is evolved from the classic wino style of the 1970s, updated with new materials and a revised silhouette, but still maintaining the simple charm of its unheralded predecessor. Featuring cupsole construction and a minimalist lace-up design, the Ludlow will drop this spring in two new incarnations: a combination of canvas and leather in grey and black, alongside an all-black coloway in premium waxed canvas.

Very much his own person on the courts, basketball’s Kobe Bryant extrudes the same confidence off the courts. Rather than having trends set his styles, he takes initiative and creates his own. Hence, the K.O.B.E. Collection by Nike Sportswear. Short for Know, Originate, Battle, and Elevate, the four pillars that have propelled Kobe Bryant to basketball history, the collection’s third season includes a selection of hoodie, t-shirts, rugby jersey, and more… Each will feature prominently the motto Bryant lived by – To Know, is the learning curve Bryant embarked upon as a professional basketball player. To Originate, as to one’s identity through accomplishments. To Battle, a reference to Bryant's inclination to overachieve. Finally, To Elevate, always reaching for the impossible. The Kobe Bryant x Nike Sportswear K.O.B.E. Collection for Spring/Summer 2012 will be available in the coming months at select Nike Sportswear retail locations.

Considering that fashion and image go hand in hand, we’re curious what these VIPs from the world of fashion would think about having been remade in the likeness of one SpongeBob SquarePants. We’re not sure what inspired Dutch artist Mike Frederiqo to see the fashion world through this particular prism, but we’re impressed with the results: there’s SpongeBob as Terry Richardson, sporting hipster glasses and requisite plaid flannel; designer Karl Lagerfeld, with signature shades, dark suit and studded leather gloves; designer Marc Jacobs and his sofa tattoo; Coco Chanel in signature tweed suit and pearls; Takashi Murakami as one of his trademark flowers; and Pharrell Williams decked out in BBC. It will be a blue Valentine’s Day this February as adidas Originals Blue Collection releases its latest denim inspired designs. Winning someone’s love is never an easy task. To ease the pursuit just a bit are denim shirts for both him and her. 100% cotton chambray, loosely fitted like work shirts for men and a bit form-fitting (plus feminine) for the ladies. While on the subject of “ladies”, there is the collection’s ZX Heel. Leather toe cap, nubuck upper with a dash patent leather for good measure, but its more unique (and interesting) feature is its heel counter – taken straight from adidas Originals ZX 8000 running shoes, a perfect balance between stylish and functional.

We’ve seen Nike apply its seamless Vac Tech build on a number of flagship models, ranging from the Air Royal to the Air Force 1. The latest shoe to receive the “VT” designation is the Air Max 97, a style that’s been MIA in recent months but makes a strong comeback here in a low-profile Midnight Fog colorway. Nike has shown an inclination to design its Vac Tech releases in neutral colors, and the Air Max 97 VT demonstrates why that’s the right direction to take, as the understated hue nicely complements the sleek silhouette. | Stussy x MEDICOM TOY World Tour 2 BE@RBRICK | Available Now Posted: 13 Jan 2012 06:30 PM PST
This past December Medicom Toy launched the BE@RBRICK World Wide Tour 2 in Tokyo, in which a total of 73 different 1000% BE@RBRICKs, each customized by a different artist or brand, were put on display. The exhibit included a Stussy BE@RBRICK design inspired by a vintage Shawn Stussy surfboard from the 1980s. Cast in a bright yellow hue, the figure was adorned with a stylized underwater motif, featuring colored bubbles and fishes formed with zigzag lines. Stussy is celebrating the BE@ARBRICK World Wide Tour with the release of a 100% and 400% Stussy BE@RBRICK, both of which can be purchased now through Stussy’s webstore.

The low-profile design and classic silhouette have made the Nike All Court Mid a repeat offender for collaborative releases. Nike Sportswear is set to release a retooled standalone version that should appeal to sneakerheads and dedicated followers of fashion alike. The shoe is built with a henna leather upper and features a tonal suede toe cap, as well as a suede heel tab in white. In anticipation of Chinese New Year and the arrival of the Year of the Dragon, Nike China played host last evening to “The Power of Dragon”, a special launch party for its Year of the Dragon Collection. With the YOTD collection – Air Force 1 Low Supreme, Air Jordan 2012, Nike Kobe VII System Supreme and Nike Zoom KD IV, as centerpieces, Nike converted event space at Shanghai 800 Creative Park into a fully fledged dragon’s lair, featuring associated graphics, lighting, even temporary flooring in the forms of dragon scales. Ushered through the lair’s gate, an evening filled with entertainment awaited guests. In a battle of might and supremacy, top streetballers from Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and elsewhere compete head to head. Elsewhere along the sprawling space, there were battles among b-boy crews from across China. The evening never let up as some of the best MC and DJ from the four corners of Asia, including DJ Uppercut, Shortkut, and Tashi, performed on a singular musical theme of “The Story of the Monster”.

A new video from Nike Basketball breaks down the “Attack Fast” insert of the Kobe VII System. As Nike Creative Director Eric Avar explains, the Attack Fast midsole incorporates two Zoom heel bags: a large volume heel Zoom bag and a lower profile forefoot Zoom bag that enables Kobe to be responsive and quick. Because of his speed and that explosive first step, Nike built a shoe that delivers responsiveness and plenty of lateral support through fractal design at the heel. For Kobe, the shoe is all about “cutting seconds,” helping him to get position and establish a threat to the defender by keeping him off balance. Click through to see the Kobe VII System in action.
