| THRASHER – Most Jaw-Dropping Skateboarding Pics of 2011 Posted: 30 Dec 2011 09:30 PM PST With all due respect to the editorial staff at Thrasher Magazine, no one picks up the skateboard periodical for the articles. It’s all about the photos, showcasing the raddest skaters undertaking the gnarliest tricks. The magazine runs more than 10,000 images in print and online each year, and the crew from Thrasher recently got together with Wired.com to hand select the 10 most jaw-dropping photos published by Thrasher in 2011. It should be noted that these aren’t necessarily the best photos — criteria such as lighting, focus and composition aren’t relevant. “It’s really more about the stunt being documented,” asserts Thrasher creative director Kevin Convertito. “Sort of like shooting photos of car crashes.” An apt analogy, insofar as the following images depict skateboarding feats impressive enough to stop traffic. | HUF x HAROSHI x DLX | Preview + Event Info Posted: 30 Dec 2011 08:00 PM PST HUF will be hosting an opening reception in L.A. for the upcoming HUF x DLX x Haroshi collaboration. Two skate institutions with roots in San Francisco, along with an artist whose medium is compressed skateboards, have come together on a unique project that blends skateboarding with artistry. The reception, scheduled for January 7th, will showcase the unveiling of six original works created by Haroshi exclusively for the collaborative venture, as well as live musical performances by Tommy Guerrero, Money Mark, Ray Barbee and Fredo Ortiz. | Hydro74 – “Wolf” Illustration Time Lapse | Video Posted: 30 Dec 2011 07:30 PM PST The last time we caught up with Joshua Smith, the man better known as Hydro74 was putting pen to paper to create a stunning owl illustration. The entire process was captured on time lapse video, transforming a painstakingly deliberate affair into a frenetic blur of activity. The designer has put on a repeat performance of sorts, this time trading in traditional implements for the digital variety — namely, Adobe Illustrator and the software’s Pen Tool. The new time lapse video depicts the development of a wolf illustration (animal iconography being Hydro74′s stock-in-trade), set to an industrial soundtrack courtesy of Gein feat Silent Killer & Breaker. A remote control lets you access playlist, volume and other controls. But access also comes in another, more interesting form. | OHWOW – Terry Richardson “Terrywood” Exhibition Posted: 30 Dec 2011 06:30 PM PST Love him or hate him, there’s no denying fashion photographer Terry Richardson has carved a unique identity for himself, along with a level of name recognition that most photogs would kill for. His hard flash photography is quickly followed by his own self-styled image — toothy grin, thumbs-up sign, ubiquitous flannel shirt and oversized glasses — as defining trademarks, and his penchant for the leering, scandalous narrative hasn’t deterred any of the hordes of A-list celebrities from seeking his services. It’s a wonder, then, that it’s taken this long for Terry Richardson to stage his first solo exhibition in Los Angeles. Composed of over 25 of his most recent photos, TERRYWOOD is scheduled to open February 24th at OHWOW gallery. The installation represents the collision of Terryworld with Hollywood, wherein familiar Tinseltown tropes are recontextualized through Terry’s distinctive lens. | Blade Runner – Original Sketchbook | Digital Edition Posted: 30 Dec 2011 02:00 PM PST The black and white illustration above certainly isn’t too impressive, but its in fact the preliminary sketch of Rick Deckard’s police spinner in the movie “Blade Runner”. Adding fuel to the perpetual rumor mill of an upcoming sequel by director Ridley Scott, the original sketchbook to the 1982 sci-fi classic, long out of print, is now available for view online. A dystopia Los Angeles set not too far in the distant future, Scott, along with notable sci-fi illustrator/futurist Syd Mead (who also worked on “Tron”, “Aliens”, “Star Trek”, and more…) and other conceptual artists, created a world much more parallel to the present day, down to futuristic taxi and parking meters. | Nike Pre Montreal Racer Quickstrike | Size? UK Exclusive Posted: 30 Dec 2011 01:30 PM PST First released in 1973, the Nike Pre Montreal Racer QS was the signature running shoe for 21 year-old Steve Prefontaine, Nike’s first-ever sponsored athlete, who tragically died ahead of the 1972 Olympics, far from the true potential of his young career. Keeping its original silhouette and the running technology of its predecessor, Nike constructed the 2012 Pre Montreal with a suede and nylon upper, the classic waffle outsole, and a vintage-treated outsole and foam tongue. On both the Navy/Blue colorway and the Black/Red, white was chosen for the leather Swoosh, brand tab and heel completing the old school look. Currently these shoes are exclusive to the UK at select retailers, including size?, but you can get a close look at them after the jump.
